Goonama is part of a former 3000 hectare grazing property that adjoins the Piliga State Conservation area, south of the towns of Piliga and Wee Waa.

A full ecological inventory is currently being undertaken, This page will be updated once these studies are completed.

Vegetation Communities
The following vegetation types have been recorded on Goonama:-

  • Piliga Box Woodland (Regionally significant)
  • River Red Gum Forest Regionally significant)
  • Carbeen Open Forest community of the Darling Riverine Plains (Endangered Ecological Community)
  • Bulloke & Belah Woodlands (Regionally significant)
  • Narrow-leaved Ironbark-Cypress Pine Woodland

Threatened Species Records
The following threatened species have been recorded on Goulburn River:-

  • Koala, vulnerable in NSW

The following threatened species are predicted to occur on Goulburn River:-

  • Piliga Mouse
  • Barking and Grass Owls
  • Squirrel Gliders
  • Threatened Woodland birds

Conservation Management Activities
The following management activities are either underway or planned:-

  • Cessation of grazing and firewood/fence post collection to allow regeneration of Ironbark woodlands following sleeper cutting
  • Fencing to keep stock out from adjoining properties.
