Black Mountain is part of a former 1704 ha grazing property that is under an exclusive purchase option in favour of Eco Trades.

The property is strategically located less than 20km from a number of proposed coal mines in the Upper Hunter Valley coal field.

A full ecological inventory is currently being undertaken, This page will be updated once these studies are completed.

Vegetation Communities
The following vegetation types have been recorded on Black Mountain:-

  • Grassy White Box Woodland (EEC)
  • Narrow-leaved Ironbark – White Cypress Pine Woodland
  • Grey Gum-Yellow Box-Silvertop Stringybark
  • River Oak Riparian Forest

Threatened Species Records
The following threatened species have been recorded on Black Mountain:-

  • Spotted-tail Quoll

The following threatened fauna species are predicted to occur on Black Mountain:-

  • Koala
  • Forest owls
  • Threatened woodland Birds (Speckled warbler, Diamond Firetail, Grey-crowned Babbler, Brown Treecreeper)
  • Glossy Black-cockatoo

Conservation Management Activities
The following conservation management activities are either underway or planned:-

  • Cessation of grazing and firewood/fence post collection
  • Fencing out grazing lands from the conservation area
  • Feral Pig and Fox Control
  • Weed control
