Apple Tree Flat is part of a former private in-holding in Wollemi National Park. Its dedication as an addition to the park has strategic park management values as it will remove a source of domestic animal activity and weed invasion as well as possible wild fire ignition point.
The following threatened species have been recorded in the vicinity of Apple Tree Flat:-
- Brush-tailed Rock-wallaby, endangered in NSW
- Giant Burrowing Frog
- Glossy Black Cockatoo
- Threatened Forest Owls
- Spotted-tailed Quoll
- Regent Honeyeater
- Olearia cordata
