In 2006, a number of Eco Trades biodiversity offset properties were successfully used by the Hardie Holdings Group to secure development outcomes as part of the Lower Hunter Strategy.

A Memorandum of Understanding between the Minister for Planning, the Minster for the Environment and Hardie Holdings was negotiated resulting in the future dedication of  over 7000 hectares of private land with high conservation values as new National Parks and Reserves.
